From CPD to CPR

Understand the difference!

With the change from the Construction Products Directive (CPD) to the Construction Product Regulation (CPR) in 2011, also the legal nature of the ETAs has changed:

  • CPD: ETA = European Technical Approval, which meant that the product is fit for use for a given application.
  • CPR: ETA= European Technical Assessment, which means that the product performance for a given application was assessed under harmonised conditions (test criteria etc.). The decision, if the product is fit for use, is done by the specifier or end user based on the performance data in the DoP (taken from the ETA) and on harmonised design methods (Eurocode, EOTA TR)

To avoid confusion, only the term “assssment” shall be used.
